SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA

I have the very good fortune to work as a chiropractor with the Canadian Track Cycling Team. I have the even greater fortune to look after them, and treat them at their home base and training camps in Seal Beach, California. It is beautiful there, and I always gain so much (besides some vitamin D) whenever I go there.

This trip was unique in that CCA has put together an IST- integrative services team, we are all flown down to introduce us all to each other and to the 2010 World Cup Team.

The athletes are usually the individuals that inspire me, but this trip I met three wonderful ladies, Kristen Barnes- Sport Psychologist, Susan Bogeman- Sport Nutritionist and Andrea Wooles- Exercise Physiologist. These women all have exceptional knowledge and experience in their respective fields. Each has worked with different world class teams and athletes and has been an integral part of their successes. I have gained invaluable knowledge from these three wonderful people in the short time we correlated together in LA. Not only did a learn a ton from these professionals in their fields but I also learned how ESSENTIAL and beneficial it is for us to work together and make each other even stronger at what we each do.

The sports medicine world is all about TEAMWORK, working together with the athlete's best interest and performance as a common goal. This is the way support teams HAVE to work in order to be successful. Egos have to be set aside, extra time for meetings with the other members of the IST to "piece the athlete's puzzle together" is a priority. Everyone has to work together and trust each other in order to create a positive environment and an optimal performance environment for the athletes.

The CCA has grown leaps and bounds since I have started working with them a few years ago. This type of environment and support for these athletes is a set up for success, and it will be an amazing journey this season to see the results that are obtained as we lead up to the London Olympics in 2012.

I am super honoured to be an integral part of this program and to be able to contribute!
